Case For: Harry Potter

Harry Potter - The Boy Who Lived Premise: After discovering he's a wizard, a young, neglected boy named Harry Potter begins his studies at a magical institution and discovers a whole new world of adventure.
Creator/Owner: J.K. Rowling (series creator/publication rights owner) and Warner Bros (franchise owner)
Genre: Fantasy Adventure
Target: The young and the young-at-heart.

This series should have been a no-brainer.

Warner Bros., who owns the characters and worlds in the Harry Potter universe, has made hundreds of millions of dollars creating everything from toys to clothes to video games to motion pictures. However, it is strange that the house that Bugs Bunny and Batman built never greenlit an animated version of Harry Potter.

I've seen the animation-styled lithographs the studio is selling, so they definitely have designs in mind. Maybe they're just stuck on story ideas because they feel that kids would give a "been there, done that" reaction. After all, who hasn't read Ms. Rowling's novels?

Here's what they could do for story ideas. The first season could adapt the entire Year One storyline. The first three episodes could even be assembled as an animated movie of sorts, an animated retelling how Harry learned about who he really is, the visits from Hagrid, the journey to Diagon Alley, and his first days at Hogwart's. The season could even fill in gaps the books never told. Each episode should get Ms. Rowling's blessing and a strong vocal cast should be in place. The series would reignite interest in the original book series as well as create new marketing possibilities. This would actually be a great series for Kids' WB and Cartoon Network to share costs on, creating a franchise that'll be appreciated by both sexes.

Harry Potter: The Animated Series actually makes sense if you think about it.
