Would a comic-based network work in the United States?
Yes.
A comic channel could work here in the United States. It's almost impossible to believe that such a channel has never been created before now. With the advant of a larger programming spectrum on the horizon, the opportunity for new programming choices is becoming greater by the minute. It'd be foolish to think that there won't be new channels coming soon, and one would think that by looking at the marketplace and seeing what is and what isn't availiable, someone would notice there is a market for a comic-themed channel in the United States.
The mainstream media watch shows and movies featuring comic book characters. They go to theme parks and ride comic-inspired attractions. They've made characters created before the second World War into cultural icons and grew up with a generation of heroes with problems just like ours. Comics have entertained generations of Americans and the world at large. Like animation, comics are an international artform that should be celebrated.
The ultimate celebration is to create a network where all comic-based media can come together. A network where those icons that could touch the sky could come together with mysterious beings that are beneath the Earth. A place where webslingers, skysurfers, marksmen, deities, aliens, mages, patriots, mutants, metahumans, detectives, soldiers, demons, angels, fanboys, otaku, special agents, and those of us trying to make it in this world all congregate.
An outlet where you could find out all about your favorite comic titles and comic creators as well as learn new techniques from the masters of the game. A destination where fans and creators of all types connect, celebrating comics in all genres.
There has never been a more perfect time for a comic channel to become a reality, which is why I believe it could work.
