Giant Robot Weak? | Jeff Harris, February 25, 2003

Giant Robot Week was good, but it could have been much better. In spite of the mashed credits, show edits, fan wars, and miscommunication, Giant Robot Week was a great event.

Yeah, I know. The edits might have been a damper on the event, but most fans realized that to show them on Toonami, edits had to be done (and those that wanted the unedited shows, well, you could always, I don't know, buy them from your local video stores). Still, despite having premieres of like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dai-Guard, Gigantor, Low Brow, and Martian Successor Nadesico and the return of Robotech, Giant Robot Week could have been much better.

It should have been longer, it should have had a better lineup, and it should have had a nice variety. You may ask yourself, how did I get here? Well, I could say that this was nothing more than a publicity event for ADV Films. It wasn't, but you have to notice the strange omissions from Giant Robot Week both on-air and online. Plus, there are some American-made shows that could have easily fit in Giant Robot Week.

If the powers that be at Cartoon Network decides to grace the Toonami screen with another Giant Robot Week, they need to at least do one or two of the following suggestions. Not only would you have a memorable event, but you'd also have something worth remembering. That's not to say that the first GRW won't be remembered. I'm just saying that fans will have more positive memories about the whole event.

Here's my first suggestion.
