| SB-01: Toon Disney | Step 3: Putting the Disney in Disney Jetix |
| There is no reason why there aren't any Disney shows on Toon Disney.
Yes, I am aware of the Disney Channel shows that are currently on Toon Disney, but that's the rub. There's such a disconnect from the legacy of Disney Animation from Disney Channel. Disney Channel used to be the bastion of the Disney legacy, but in modern years, they've adapted a "Radio Disney" -like persona aimed towards young girls and teens. I'm not a fan of genre-separated programming, and Disney Channel has completely deviated from the original script, but that's a topic for another time. There's no Disney-branded programming on Toon Disney. Nothing with traditional Disney characters (whether it's the original theatrical shorts or the modern Disney shows featuring them) can be found. Disney Afternoon properties are a rarity on Toon Disney as are shows from Disney's One Saturday Morning. All the non-Jetix cartoons are Disney Channel programs that have been recently cancelled. In short, Disney Channel is making Toon Disney their recycle bin, not unlike what Cartoon Network is making Boomerang, but, again, that's a conversation for another time. What would I do to fix this? Simple, I'd bring them all back. Okay, it's a lot more complicated than just bringing them back. I'd utilize all dayparts, create a lineup and blocks that best fits each show, and eventually bring them all to Disney Jetix. And I'd create programs to showcase the classic shorts, one for the morning, two for the afternoon, one for primetime, and one for overnight. A celebration of Disney Animation will be an everyday occurance at Disney Jetix. That's right. I need to break down the blocks. Blocks are the foundation of any network, either branded or unbranded. |
